Q: What is myLINGO?
A: myLINGO is a smartphone app that enables non-English speaking audiences to enjoy
mainstream U.S. movies in theaters, by allowing them to hear the corresponding dub in
their own language, in real time, via headphones connected to their smartphone or
equivalent device. myLINGO shatters the language barrier that prevents millions of nonnative English speakers from going to theaters in the U.S., which similarly prevents
hundreds of thousands of expat Americans from enjoying movies abroad.
Q: So, is myLINGO a live translation service?
A: No, it's even simpler than that. myLINGO offers an elegant solution to overcome
language barriers. Movie and television studios already produce and own domestic and
foreign language audio tracks (produced for foreign release), so the audio tracks used by
myLINGO are readily available and are of excellent quality. Our technology syncs these
tracks to play in time with the original source audio, without any disturbance or audio
asynchrony.
Q: Can I use myLINGO for movies at home?
A: Not yet, but we're getting there. myLINGO expects to significantly expand the
availability of high-quality, compelling content for “second screen” media applications at
home and at work, while broadening smartphone/tablet applications not only for movie
theaters, but for home entertainment as well.
Q: The movie I want to go see in theaters isn't available on myLINGO.
A: myLINGO is a new company, and we hope to have all movies currently in theaters
available on the app in the coming months. That way, you won't have to keep missing out
on the movie-going experience.
Q: myLINGO didn't work for me when I tried it using my computer. Is this normal?
A: myLINGO uses your cell phone's on-board microphone to listen to the audio playing
from the computer. Your microphone may have been covered, or maybe Mom was
yelling too loud and it picked up her voice instead! Ensure that the computer’s audio is
the dominant audio in the room. Last but not least, be patient, as the app is analyzing the
sound bite and synchronizing your lingo to play to a precise moment. If you need further
